STEP 1:
On the Backup or Restore Wizard screen select NEXT.
STEP 2:
In the "What do you want to do" screen, select "Back up files and settings" so that you can choose the files that you want to backup. Click NEXT.
STEP 3:
Next we specify what we would like to backup. For this example we will select "Let me chose what to back up". Click NEXT.
STEP 4:
In example "A" we have chosen to backup the folder "My Documents" only by putting a tick in the check box (click in the box with your cursor). Notice that the tick is Blue, indicating that all folders and files beneath "My Documents" will be backed up.
STEP 4A:
In example "B" we have expanded down the folders inside "My Documents" by clicking on the [+] box on the lefthand side of the folder. (Clicking the [-] box will close up the folders again)
We have then chosen to select only the folder called "Images". Notice that the tick next to "My Documents" is Grey, indicating that only SOME folders/files are selected. Whereas the tick next to "Images" is Blue, indicating that ALL folders/files are selected beneath it.
STEP 4B:
Now in example "C" we have chosen to select two files only - branding.gif and img001.jpg. Again check the colour of the ticks. If you select a file or folder by mistake, just click on the box again to deselect it.
After you have selected all the files and folders that you want to backup click NEXT.
STEP 5:
In this next screen we choose a place to save our backup eg. Floppy Disk, Zip Drive, CD-Writer etc and also name our backup, so that we can use this backup set if we want to restore at a later stage. In this example we have chosen to back up to Floppy (A:) drive and have called the backup set "PC Win Test Backup". Note: Use the "Browse" button to select where you want to save the backup. Click NEXT to continue.
STEP 6:
We are now presented with the Completing dialogue box which confirms our choices. At this point we can click FINISH to commence the back up or we set additional backup options by clicking on the "Advanced" button.
STEP 7:
Prior to backing up Windows will create a "Restore point" for our computer in case anything goes wrong. You will get a Backup Progress screen as below.
FINAL STEP:
The Backup Progress screen will tell us when the backup is complete. At this point we can click CLOSE and remove our floppy disk. If there were errors in the backup we could click on REPORT button and the log will tell you what went wrong. In most cases it is because you had a document or email open at the time you ran the backup.
That's it. Close the program by clicking the X top right hand corner.
